Mark Smith took over as North Greenville's tennis coach in 2016, heading bot the men's and women's teams. 

Smith came to NGU after spending 8 1/2 years at Pebble Creek Country Club, serving as the club's tennis pro. During that time he has served as the Chair of the Player Development committees for both USTA Southern and USTA South Carolina. Smith has also served on both the USTA 10 & Under and the USTA Schools committees at the National level. Mark has been the Co-Director of the Palmetto Championships in Belton, SC for the past 17 years. The Palmetto is the largest junior tournament in South Carolina, hosting an average of 440 players every year.

Mark was born in Concord, NH and was part of a tennis family. Both his father and mother were high school coaches. When his dad retired he had an overall record of 527-30. His younger brother Andy is a teaching pro at the Grande Dunes in Myrtle Beach.

Smith played his college tennis at The University of Maine where he won an NAIA New England doubles championship with partner Eric Heitman. He has been involved in developing high level tournament players foremost of his life. Many of Mark’s players have gone on to play college tennis.

Smith coached high school tennis in Ohio for three years where he amassed a record of 45-9. He has served as the coach for Team South Carolina at the junior Southern Cup eight different times.
