GAMEDAY CENTRAL: 24 / 25 North Greenville Heads to Ferrum to Take on the Panthers

Ferrum, VA – North Greenville football hits the road as a team this weekend for the first time since 2006 as the #24 / #25 Trailblazers take on Ferrum in the first Conference Carolinas tilt of the 2026 season. 
 
Saturday will be the second consecutive week on the road for NGU and the third road trip in four games so far this season. Last weekend North Greenville improved to 3 – 0 for the first time sin 2013 with a 24 – 14 road win over #18 West Alabama. The Trailblazers erased a 14 – 0 deficit while holding the Tigers scoreless in the second half to secure the upset win. All three of NGU's wins so far this season have been come-back victories. 
 
The Trailblazers are gearing up for a showdown with the Panthers of Ferrum University who sit at 0 – 3 on the season but proved to be a pesky opponent last season as NGU earned a 27 – 0 win but were held scoreless in the second half by the Panthers defense. So far this season the Panthers and Trailblazers have one common opponent in Catawba College. In week one the Panthers the Indians were locked in a defensive battle. Catawba escaped Ferrum with a 13 – 7 win after scoring the go – ahead touchdown in the third quarter. 
 
North Greenville's high-powered offense looks to get off to a fast start today against a Ferrum defense that is allowing 34 – points per game while NGU's defense faces a Panthers offense that scores 17 – points per contest. The Panthers are averaging around 350 – yards of total offense led by a passing game that puts up 225 – yards per game with five touchdowns. Conversely, NGU's offense continues to put up big numbers. The Trailblazers are averaging 425 – yards per game and will face a Ferrum defense that is allowing 525 – yards to opposing offenses including 226 – yards rushing and 299 – yards through the air. 
 
Kam Montgomery is leading North Greenville's offensive charge this season with six touchdowns on the ground which ranks him in the top – 10 in Division II football. He has 278 – yards on the ground through three games and has thrown for 217 – yards per game. Montgomery's favorite receiver so far this season has been Sam Washam who has eight receptions for 129 – yards but four other receivers have at least four receptions with three having one touchdown. 
 
Defensively North Greenville is led by Brannon Teamer who has 25 tackles on the season including two for a loss. Kaliber Hoey leads the team with two interceptions while Gavin Calhoun has forced and recovered a fumble. Calhoun is also one of two players with 2.5 – tackles for a loss along with Teamer. 
 
Weekly Awards
It has been a banner year for the Trailblazers so far this season. NGU is headlining the Player of the Week awards for the Conference Carolinas winning the offensive player of the week for the first two weeks by Cam Montgomery. North Greenville has now won three consecutive defensive player of the week awards including winners Gavin Calhoun, Jeremiah Lomax, and Kaliber Hoey.
