NGU Opens Up Conference Series with Win Over UNC Pembroke

The North Greenville Trailblazers outslugged UNC Pembroke in a high-scoring contest, earning a 12-8 victory this evening at Sammy Cox Field.

After UNC Pembroke struck first in the opening inning, North Greenville responded in a big way in the 3rd, scoring four runs to take control. Connor McKee tied the game with a solo home run before RBI hits from C.J. Dean and Josh Foulks, along with a wild pitch, helped give NGU a 4-1 lead. The Trailblazers continued to build momentum in the 4th, highlighted by a two-run home run from McKee and an RBI single by Dean to extend the lead to 7-2.

North Greenville added two more runs in the 6th on a two-run home run by Thomas Powell and carried that advantage into the late innings. After UNC Pembroke cut into the lead with runs in the 6th and 8th, the Trailblazers responded in the 9th with three key runs, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Powell.. The Braves attempted a late rally in the bottom of the 9th, but NGU held on to secure the win.

Connor McKee led the offense with 4 hits including 2 home runs and 4 RBIs while scoring 3 runs. Thomas Powell also had a standout performance, going 3-for-6 with a home run and 4 RBIs. C.J. Dean added 2 hits and 2 RBIs, while Landon Peavy contributed 2 hits including a triple and scored twice.

On the mound, Matty Brown earned the win with 7.0 innings, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits while striking out 4.

The series will conclude tomorrow with a doubleheader tomorrow in Pembroke, North Carolina.
