Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Trailblazers split a non-conference doubleheader with the Wasps of Emory & Henry University this afternoon at Jan McDonald Field. NGU took the opener with a final score of 3-2 while the Wasps responded by taking game two with a final score of 7-5.
Haylee Whitesides started the day off by taking the mound. NGU would get off to an early 2-0 lead in the 1st inning. E&H was able to get on the board in the 3rd inning, but after two scoreless inning North Greenville would increase their lead back to two with a run in the 6th. A solo shot by Emory & Henry would close the gap back to a single run, but Whitesides would cap off the complete game to secure the win.
Owyen Lyall took the mound for game two. After Emory & Henry scored a run in the 1st, North Greenville would respond in the bottom of the inning with a two-run home run by
Haylee Whitesides. The Trailblazers would run into trouble in the 3rd inning as six runs would score for the Wasps. NGU would close the deficit throughout the remainder of the game with a two-run 5th off a home run by
Karley Green and another run in the 7th. The tying run would come to the plate, but a fly out would end the game as E&H were able to hang on for the win. Lyall took the loss on the mound.
Emily Blackwell put together a solid afternoon, finishing with 4 hits, 4 runs scored, and a walk.
Haylee Whitesides would pitch a complete game, pitching 7.0 innings and allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits and no walks while striking out 8 batters. She also recorded 3 hits including a home run in addition to 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
NGU will return to action on Wednesday, March 25th against the Belmont Abbey Crusaders at Jan McDonald Field.
