NGU Continues Momentum with Sweep of Converse

North Greenville completed a sweep of the Converse Valkyries this afternoon with final scores of 14-1 and 4-3 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. NGU began the day with a convincing game one, pulling away early with a run in the 1st and six runs in the 2nd including RBI singles by Ansley Fowler, Karley Green, Lexie Metcalf, Jordan Slocum, and Maddie Stone. After a scoreless 3rd inning, North Greenville would run away with the game with a seven inning 4th inning that including a bases-clearing double by Karley Green and an RBI single by Lexie Metcalf. The Valkyries would get on the board in the bottom of the inning with a run, but North Greenville would comfortably hang on for the win. Haylee Whitesides pitched a complete game and recorded the win. Game two also began on a high note for the Trailblazers as RBIs by Ansley Fowler and Lexie Metcalf gave NGU a two-run lead. Converse would score three runs on a bases-clearing double in the 6th before North Greenville responded with an RBI single by Haylee Whitesides in the 7th. Extra innings were needed, but NGU would break through in the 10th inning with an RBI single by Maddie Stone. Karley Green went on to pitch a complete game, pitching all 10.0 innings and was the winning pitcher.

Lexie Metcalf finished with 5 RBIs, 4 hits, and 2 runs scored. Ansley Fowler also posted 4 hits including a triple, 2 runs, and 2 RBIs. Karley Haylee Whitesides pitched a solid 5.0 innings, allowing just 1 run on 4 hits and 4 walks while collecting 7 strikeouts.

NGU will return to action on Friday, March 13th against the Hawks of Shorter University at Jan McDonald Field.
