Box Score Cleveland, MS – North Greenville's season got off to a rocky start on Saturday night at Delta State as the Trailblazers fell 41 – 9 to the #22 Statesmen in non-conference football.
North Greenville's fist score of the season came by the way of a safety. The two – point score made it 7 – 2. The Statesman scored earlier in the first quarter on a five – yard touchdown pass. NGU trailed 27 – 2 at halftime.
The first touchdown strike of the season came in the third quarter when
Dylan Ramirez hooked up with Landon Goodwoin from 61 – yards out to cut the lead down to 18 – points. North Greenville had chances to cut the lead down further but struggled in the red-zone going 0 – 3 inside the 20 – yard line. The Statesmen finished 5 of 6 in the red area. North Greenville also struggled on third down going 3 of 16.
Ramirez finished the day with 229 – yards on 15 completions and a touchdown pass. Goodwin led the trailblazers with 75 – yards and a score. Cam Walker had 4 catches for 59 – yards.
Defensively North Greenville forced a pair of Delta State turnovers via the interception.
Brooks Russ-Martin picked off the DSU quarterback in the endzone while Matt Howard also secured his first interception as a Trailblazer.
Jakel Scott recovered a Delta State fumble.
Ty Cade led the team with 7 tackles. Russ-Martin finished with five tackles.
