The North Greenville 2025 baseball season came to an end this evening in Salisbury, North Carolina as the Trailblazers were able to stay alive in the NCAA Divison II Southeast Regional with a 5-2 victory over the Bearcats of Lander Universty in an elimination game, but was unable to force another game tomorrow and ultimately falling to the Catawba College Indians with a final score of 8-5. NGU's 2025 season comes to a close with an overall record of 45-15, falling just two wins shorts of advancing to the NCAA Division II Southeast Super Regional.
Game one began with an early deficit for North Greenville as the Bearcats put up a run on the board in the 1st. However, the Trailblazers responded by taking the lead in the 3rd inning when an RBI double by
Gideon Antle was followed by a two-run home run by
Tristan Salinas. The next two innings would go scoreless, but Lander would cut their deficit down to one with a run in the 6th. After a scoreless 7th, NGU added to their lead with a two-run home run by
Jake Sears to increase the lead to three.
Caleb Cox, who pitched the final three innings, recorded the save to secure the win for North Greenville.
Jake Monroe was the winning pitcher.
Needing a win to force a final championship game, North Greenville was able to get things off to a good start, scoring three runs in the 1st including an RBI double by
Alton Gyselman and a two-RBI single by
Thomas Powell. Catawba responded in the bottom of the 2nd with an RBI single. Things would go scoreless until the 6th inning, but CAT would make that inning a big one as they would claim the lead with six runs in the inning,
Josh Williams came through with a pinch hit home run in the 8th inning, scoring two runs to cut the deficit down to two, but Catawba was able to score a run of their own in the bottom of the inning. NGU was unable to get anything going in their final inning of the season as Catawba would strike out the side.
Landon Shaw finished the day with three hits including a double.
Jake Monroe pitched 6.0 strong innings, allowing just two runs on two hits and four walks while striking out five.
Caleb Cox pitched 3.0 shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out two and earning a save.
