Thomas Powell Hit Walk Off Home Run as NGU Splits Doubleheader to Win Series Against Southern Wesleyan

Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Trailblazers wrapped up their 2025 regular season with a doubleheader split and a series win against the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University with a game one final score of 3-2 in favor of the Warriors and a walk-off 4-2 victory for NGU in game two. North Greenville ultimately won the series between the two teams after winning game one of the series yesterday. Brody Fowler took the mound for game one. Josh Foulks would get the Trailblazers on the board early with an RBI single in the 1st inning. The next four innings would go scoreless, but Southern Wesleyan would end the drought in the 6th inning with a two-RBI double to take the lead. NGU responded in the bottom of the inning when Bret Blomquist hit an RBI single. SWU was able to reclaim the lead in the top of the 7th with an RBI single of their own. Josh Williams drew a walk in the bottom of the inning, but the Trailblazers would ultimately come up short as the run would not score. Matthew Taubensee was charged with the loss. Jake Monroe was NGU's starting pitcher for game two. Pitching would handle things early on as the first three innings went scoreless. NGU would take the lead in the 4th with a two-RBI double by Matthew Albritton. After two more scoreless innings, SWU would tie the game with a two-run home run. Still tied in the bottom of the 9th, Thomas Powell would send everyone home with a walk-off home run to center field. Bennett Roemer pitched the 9th inning and was the winning pitcher. With the regular season complete, the Trailblazers finished with an overall record of 42-11 and a conference record of 21-9.

Thomas Powell finished the day with two hits including a walk-off home run in addition to two RBIs and two runs scored. Bryce Roddey posted three hits. Jake Monroe pitched 4.0 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out four.

North Greenville will return to action in the Conference Carolinas Tournament against the Braves of UNC Pembroke on Thursday, May 1st at Sims Legion Park in Gastonia, North Carolina.
