Duncan S.C. – North Greenville is in the driver's seat at the Conference Carolinas softball tournament after a pair of wins on Friday afternoon. The Trailblazers eliminated Young Harris 2 – 1 in round one and delivered one of the biggest wins in program history in game two with a 4 – 3 win over nationally ranked (#2) Francis Marion.
Lexie Metcalf delivered the biggest hit of the game for NGU against the Mount Lions, a two – run homer that gave North Greenville a 2 – 1 advantage.
Sydney Clark, who came in in relief for NGU in the third inning handled things from there, allowing just two base runners in the final three AB's for Young Harris.
Game two proved to be a special one for the Trailblazers who took an early 2 – 0 lead on Karly Green's two run single in the first inning. The number one seed Francis Marion cut the deficit in half with a run in the bottom of the first and took their first and only lead of the game with two runs in the second inning.
The score remained 3 – 2 in favor of the Patriots until North Greenville evened it up in the fifth inning.
Maddie Stone delivered on a two – out RBI single that brought in
Ari Day to even it at three. Stone would come through for North Greenville once again with an even bigger RBI single when she poked one to left field to score the eventual winning run. Karly Green set the table when she led the inning off with a triple.
Kylie Rast, who struggled to find the zone in game two came up big for the Trailblazers in game two, pitching seven innings of relief, striking out five and holding the Patriots scoreless for the final five innings.
