Tigerville – North Greenille's defense forced four turnovers on Saturday carrying the Trailblazers to a 20 – 7 win over #19 UNC Pembroke in Younts Stadium.
North Greenville defenders set the tone early, forcing a three – and – out on UNCP's first drive and forcing the Braves to turn it over on their second trip out on the field. North Greenville's offense converted the
Bryson Oliver fumble recovery in to a field goal to give NGU a 3 – 0 lead. NGU defenders would hold the Braves scoreless in the first half.
North Greenville would tack on another field goal and an
Eric Rasheed receiving touchdown to take a 13 – 0 lead in to intermission. Momentum seemd to change in the third quarter when a North Greenville interception set UNCP up first and goal on the one yard line. A score by the Braves would pull them to within a touchdown but for the second week straight NGU defenders would deliver a goa line stand to keep the Braves scoreless.
The momentum shifted big time on NGU's ensuing possession.
Ahmari Coats broke off NGU's longest pass play of the season as he took a Ramirez pass 90 – yards for a score which extended NGU's lead to 20 – 0. Coats finished with 107 – yards on three catches. Ramirez threw for 202 – yards and a pair of touchdowns. North Greenville's run game was carried by
Deshawn Tompkins who had 107 yards on 25 attempts.
The Braves would go on to score in the fourth quarter but struggled to get much by way of offense all day. North Greenville's defense held the Braves to 63 – yards on the ground and 300 – yards total with four turnovers.
Bryson Oliver led NGU with a pair of fumble recoveries and an interception. He also had a tackle for a loss.
Ty Cade led NGU with six total tackles. Five different players had a sack for North Greenville. NGU defenders had 12 – PBU's.
Brooks Russ-Martin also picked off a pass.
