The North Greenville Trailblazers nearly completed a fourth quarter comeback, but ultimately fell short to the Hawks of Shorter University with a final score of 59-56 in Rome, Georgia. NGU fell behind early with a 17-8 deficit going into the second quarter. A much more competitive second quarter resulted in the Hawks increasing their lead by three points, taking a 32-20 lead into halftime. The two teams matched each other in the third quarter, scoring twelve points each to keep the Shorter lead at twelve going into the fourth. From there, the Trailblazers would close the deficit throughout the fourth quarter, pulling within three points with just over thirty seconds remaining. North Greenville would put up a shot attempt to tie the game, but it would miss as time expired, allowing Shorter to hang on for the win. The Trailblazers finished the afternoon with a .404 field goal percentage and narrowly led in points in the paint, second chance points, and fast break points.
Amaijah Smith led NGU with fourteen points as well as seven rebounds, six assists, and four steals.
Abi Oates posted eleven points along with a steal.
Tabitha Littlefield scored nine points and provided five rebounds, two blocks, and an assist.
NGU will return to action on Monday, January 20th to take on the Barton Bulldogs at Hayes Gymnasium.
