The North Greenville Crusaders were able to get the bats going early, hanging on to defeat the Flying Fleet of Erskine College with a final score of 14-6 this afternoon in Due West, South Carolina. A strong start to the game resulted in eight runs for the Crusaders in the top of the 1st including a three-run home run by
Jake Sears and a two-run home run by
Pat Monteith. Erskine was able to get on the board early as well, putting three runs on the board in the bottom of the inning. Both teams would put up a run in the 2nd, with NGU's coming off a solo home run by
Landon Shaw. North Greenville would strike with a big inning in the top of the 3rd as well, which included an RBI double by
Kaleb Hall. Pitching would settle things down until the 6th, where the Flying Fleet would cut into the deficit with two runs. However, the scoring would end there as NGU would hang on for the win.
Caleb Cox recorded the win.
Pat Monteith posted 2 hits including a home run as well as 3 runs scored, 2 RBIs, and a walk.
Landon Shaw also recorded 2 hits including a home run in addition to 2 runs scored, an RBI, and a walk.
Kaleb Hall finished his day with 2 hits including a double and 2 runs scored.
The series will conclude tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
