Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders put together a successful senior day by winning both games in a doubleheader with a final score of 6-4 in game one and a score of 17-3 in game two at Ray & Bea Dillard Field. The two wins clinched an important conference series as the Crusaders improve their record in conference play to 18-6. Game one began with a record-breaking strikeout by
Reece Fields, who now is the all-time strikeout leader in program history.
Pat Monteith was able to get the Crusaders on the board in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run in the bottom of the 1st.
Kaleb Hall added to the lead in the inning with a sacrifice fly. Monteith would strike again in the 3rd inning with another solo home run. However, Francis Marion was able to get back into the game with three runs in the 5th inning. NGU would quickly reclaim the lead with a three run bottom of the 6th including a two-RBI triple by
Jax Cash and an RBI bunt single by
Zach Cowart. A solo home run by the Patriots in the 7th would close the deficit to two, but
Reece Fields would go on to finish the complete game and take the win. Game two was dominated by North Greenville as they would end any doubt early on, beginning with another solo home run by
Pat Monteith, his third of the day. Four runs would come in for NGU in the 2nd, and after a three run inning by FMU, North Greenville would quickly respond with two runs in the bottom of the inning with a two-RBI single by
Zach Cowart.
David Lewis added to the lead in the 5th with a three-run home run and two more in the 6th with a two-RBI double. After a scoreless 7th,
Landon Peavy would homer to left field, driving in three runs as part of a four run inning.
Nate Roof would close things out with a three up, three down inning to secure the win.
Pat Monteith put together a dominant day, finishing with 4 hits, all of them for extra bases including 3 home runs.
David Lewis had a solid day with 3 hits including a home run and a double.
Reece Fields pitched a complete game, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits and no walks while striking out 6.
NGU will face the Saints of Limestone University on Tuesday, April 16th in Gaffney, South Carolina.
