Maddie Stone Hits Walk-Off Home Run as NGU Sweeps Millersville

Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders swept the Marauders of Millersville University this afternoon at Jan McDonald Field, with final scores of 8-6 and 6-2. Game one saw NGU take a 5-1 lead by the 3rd innings. However, Millersville would respond with three runs in the 4th to cut the deficit to one run. North Greenville brought in a run by way of an RBI single by Emily Dawson, which would prove to be an important one as the Marauders would tie things up with a two-run 6th inning. With Virginia Bishop on base in the bottom of the 7th, Maddie Stone would put the game to rest with a two-run home run to left center field for the walk-off. Karley Green took the win with a complete game. Game two began with two scoreless innings. After Millersville took the lead by scoring a run in the 3rd, NGU quickly responded with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning. NGU would take the lead with three runs in the 5th including a two-RBI double by Maddie Stone. The Crusaders then added two insurance runs in the 6th that included an RBI double by Ali Hartin. MU put up a scare in the top of the 7th as the tying run would come to the plate, but Sydney Clark would record the final out to secure the win. Clark also pitched a complete game for the win.

Maddie Stone finished the day with 4 hits including a walk-off home run. She also posted 4 RBIs, 2 runs scored, and 2 walks. Sydney Clark pitched a complete 7.0 innings, allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 7. Emily Blackwell also recorded 4 hits as well as 4 runs, 3 RBIs, and 2 walks.

North Greenville will face the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University on Saturday, March 9th at Jan McDonald Field.
