NGU Completes Sweep of 9th Ranked Young Harris

Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders won both games this afternoon at Ray & Bea Dillard Field to complete the conference sweep against the 9th ranked Mountain Lions of Young Harris College. NGU took an early lead in game one when Brett Blomquist brought in a run by way of a sacrifice fly. Bryce Roddey was able to add to the Crusader lead with an RBI single in the 4th inning. Young Harris was able to get on the board with a solo home run in the 5th inning. However, North Greenville not only responded but added to the lead with a four run inning including a two-run double by Landon Shaw and an RBI triple by Zach Cowart, who would go on to score on a wild pitch. NGU added two insurance runs in the 6th with an RBI double by Dakota Britt and an RBI single by Kaleb Hall. Matthew Taubensee closed things out with 2.0 perfect innings to secure the win and the series for North Greenville. Reece Fields pitched the first 5.0 innings and was the winning pitcher. Game two began with two runs by both teams in the 1st inning, with NGU's runs scored by way of a solo home run by David Lewis and a sacrifice fly by Landon Shaw. The Crusaders took the lead in the bottom of the 2nd with three runs including an RBI double by Pat Monteith. After two scoreless innings, NGU added to the lead with three additional runs as Landon Shaw would hit a two-run home run and Bryce Roddey later hit an RBI double. Young Harris would score one last run on a solo home run in the 6th, but North Greenville eventually responded with an insurance run in the 8th by way of an RBI ground out by Kaleb Hall. Nate Lamb pitched the first five innings and recorded the win. The wins move the Crusaders up to 2nd place in the Conference Carolinas standings with a 14-4 conference record.

Bryce Roddey finished a solid afternoon with 4 hits including a double as well as 2 RBIs and a walk. Thomas Powell also recorded 4 hits with a double and also scored a run. Landon Shaw posted 3 hits including a home run and a double as well as 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

North Greenville will return to action on Tuesday, April 2nd against the Wolves of Newberry College in Newberry, South Carolina.
