Florence, S.C. – North Greenville collected the program's first conference tournament win in history on Friday against Emmanuel (4 – 3) before falling to Lees-McRae in the second round 4 -1 .
The win over the Lions came down to the final game. North Greenville had to battle from behind after losing the doubles point. Anothy Cassini and
Tuur Vos fell 1 – 6 while
Lucas Cardoso and
Juan Jose Arbelaez fell 3 – 6.
Joao Di Salvi got North Greenville started in the singles match with a 4 – 6, 6 – 2, 6 – 3 win for the first point for the Crusaders.
Dean Kingsley added NGU's second win with a 6 – 1, 7 – 5 decision evening the point count at 2 – 2. The Crusaders pulled ahead when Arbelaez completed the 7 – 5, 6 – 4 win to make it 3 – 2.
The match came down to the fifth spot where
Joao Di Salvi had to bounce back from a first set loss. Di Salvi came back to win the second and third with scores of 6 – 2 and 6 – 3 to send NGU to the second round.
The 2023 season came to an end for NGU in a loss to Lees-McRae. NGU's lone win came from Di Salvi in the fifth spot, sweeping his match 6 – 2, 6 – 1.
North Greenville finishes the season 5 – 13 overall and 2 – 5 in Conference Carolinas play.
