Murfreesboro, N.C. – North Greenville overcame turnovers and a late fourth quarter push by Chowan on Saturday to earn a 31 – 16 Gulf South road win over the Hawks, improving the Crusader to 3 – 3 overall and 2 – 2 in GSC play.
The Crusaders led 17 – 3 at intermission on the strength of
Ahmari Coats first receiving touchdown at NGU and
Corey Watkins second rushing touchdown of the season.
Colin Karhu added a 21 – yard field goal.
Defensively the Crusaders allowed an opening drive field goal by the Hawks but clamped down and forced a turnover on downs, a pair of punts, and a missed field goal in the final four drives of the first half for Chowan.
Chowan score 13 – unanswered points in the third quarter, one touchdown on the ground and another through the air, missing one of the point after attempts. The Hawks scored a total of 13 third quarter points
North Greenville responded appropriately in the fourth quarter with a pair of touchdowns while holding the Hawks scoreless.
Corey Watkins added his second score of the day to go along with 99 – yards rushing while
Dylan Ramirez added his own rushing touchdown.
Ahmari Coats had a career day for North Greenville with 110 yards receiving and a touchdown to lead all receivers. Defensively,
De'Iveon Donald led the Crusaders with seven total tackles and a pair of sacks.
EJ Bradford had a career day picking off two passes while
Fred Billy intercepted his second pass of the season.
