Crusaders Top Findlay Non-Conference Shootout

Tigerville – North Greenville totaled 423 – yards of total offense and the defense came up with key stops late in the game en route to a 34 – 27 win over the University of Findlay. 
 
North Greenville led twice in the first half but trailed as the game neared halftime. The Oilers added a field goal with 5:52 left before intermission to extend a 14 – 10 lead to seven points. The Oilers punched it in twice in the first half, once on the ground and once through the air. 
 
North Greenville got on the scoreboard first with a field goal from Colin Karhu in the first quarter to make it 3 – 0. NGU regained the lead on an interception return by Dantevian Byrd. Dylan Ramirez connected with Tyler Hamilton from 17 – yards out to make it 17 – 17 just before halftime. 
 
A field goal from each team in the third quarter sent the game to the final frame even at 20 – 20. Karhu knocked through a pair of 35 – yard field goals on Saturday and was perfect on PAT's. 
 
Momentum changed early in the fourth quarter when North Greenville special teams blocked a Findlay field goal. The loose ball was picked up by Kendrick Clark to the UF 40 – yard line. Cory Croteau was credited with the block. 
 
North Greenville capitalized on the turnover with its second touchdown drive of the day. The 40  - yard march was capped by Dylan Ramirez who rushed from three – yards out for his first career rushing score. Karhu added the extra point to make it 27 – 20.
 
Findlay connected on a 47 – yard touchdown pass on the ensuing drive to even the score for the third time. The touchdown was the second passing score of the day for the oilers and made it 27 – 27 with 2:29 left in the game. 
 
North Greenville's answer was swift. Ramirez found a wide open Doug Washington on the first play from scrimmage, a 78 – yard strike which put North Greenville back on top. Ramirez ended the game with 248 – yards on 19 of 36 passing. He threw for a pair of scores and rushed for another. 
 
North Greenville's defense held up and forced a turnover on downs on UF's next drive. Corey Watkins would pick up the final first down of the game on NGU's next drive.
 
Box Score 
  • Corey Watkins led NGU rushers with 148 – yards on 16 carries. He averaged 9.2 yards per tote. 
  • Doug Washington had eight catches for 128 – yards and a score. Tyler Hamilton finished with 99 – yards on nine catches and a touchdown.
  • De'Iveon Donald led all defenders with 12 – tackles and had a pair of quarterback hurries. Kwame Livingston and Cory Croteau each had a sack.
  • North Greenville had a pair of interceptions including Dantevian Byrd's pick-six. Kendrick Clark also accounted for an interception and a fumble recovery. Byrd also had a pair of hurries and seven tackles. 
  • Keygan Mayfield led North Greenville with three pass-breakups.
