Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders are just one win away from their first ever trip to the Division II College World Series after late-game heroics resulted in a 7-6 victory over the Cougars of Columbus State University this afternoon at Ray & Bea Dillard Field. The two teams ended the game nearly even in all three columns on the scoreboard, but
Bryce Roddey would put the Crusaders over the Cougars in both hits and runs with a walk-off RBI single in the 10th inning. North Greenville took an early lead in the 2nd as two runs would score off a sacrifice fly along with an error. CSU would tie things back up in the 4th with a two-run home run. NGU would reclaim the lead in the bottom of the inning by way of a sacrifice fly by
Jordan Holladay, but a three-run 5th for the Cougars would put them on top with a score of 5-3. Both teams would plate a run in the 7th but would come up empty in the 8th. Down by two with one out in the bottom of the 9th,
Jordan Holladay and
Cambell Conard would both hit singles to get the tying run on base. After a groundout by
Cory Bivins that would get both runners in scoring position,
Gehrig Octavio would hit a single to shortstop to drive in a run.
Ethan Stringer then brought in the tying run with a single up the middle. After a scoreless top of the 10th,
Marek Chlup would start off the bottom of the inning by reaching base due to an error. He would get into scoring position by stealing second base. Then with two outs,
Bryce Roddey, who entered the game as a pinch runner, would be the hero as he would bring in Chlup with a single up the middle to complete the come-from-behind victory in extra inning.
Tristen Hudson, who pitched the 9th and 10th innings, was the winning pitcher.
