North Greenville Splits Doubleheader with Lenoir-Rhyne, Third Game to Decide Regional Bracket Champion

Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders and the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears split a doubleheader with the Bears winning the first game with a final score of 7-1 and NGU responding by taking game two with a final score of 8-4 this afternoon at Ray & Bea Dillard Field. With the doubleheader split, a final game will decide who wins the regional bracket to advance to the Southeast Super Regional tournament. Reece Fields took the mound as the game one starter, but would run into some trouble to start things off as Lenoir-Rhyne would get on the board first with two runs in the top of the 1st. Both starters would settle in as the next five innings went scoreless. However, LR would strike again in the top of the 7th by adding three runs to take a five run lead. Gehrig Octavio would drive in North Greenville's only run in the bottom of the 7th with an RBI fielder's choice. The Bears would bring in two insurance runs in the top of the 8th. Dawson Taylor would pitch a perfect top of the 9th, but the Crusader bats would stay quiet in the bottom of the inning as Lenoir-Rhyne would take the win. Reece Fields was charged with the loss. Noah Takac took the start in game two. As the designated away team, NGU quickly got to work with three runs in the top of the 1st including a two run single by Josh Senter. Cory Bivins would hit the first home run of the day in the top of the 2nd to put NGU up 4-0 early. Lenoir-Rhyne was able to get on the board with a solo shot in the bottom of the inning. After a Cambell Conard RBI single in the top of the 3rd, a ground-rule double by LR would get their second run on the board. In the top of the 6th, NGU would score two runs including an RBI double by Gehrig Octavio to lead 7-2. Andrew Kaminsky would add another run with an RBI single in the top of the 7th. Starter Noah Takac pitched 8.0 innings before being relieved by Nathan Barolet in the 9th. Barolet would allow two runs but was ultimately able to limit the damage as NGU would win the game by four runs. Takac was the winning pitcher.
