The North Greenville Crusaders won clinched sole possession of the Conference Carolinas regular season championship by winning both games in today's doubleheader against the Bulldogs of Barton College with final scores of 10-3 and 8-5 at Nixon Field in Wilson, North Carolina. After trailing 3-1 in the 2nd, NGU turned to the power game as nine of North Greenville's ten runs were driven in by home runs including two-run home runs by
Marek Chlup,
Zach Zarra,
John Michael Faile, and
Pat Monteith while
Cory Bivins hit a solo shot.
Reece Fields received the win, pitching 5.0 solid innings and allowing just one earned run on four hits and two walks while striking out seven. It would take awhile for the runs to start scoring for the Crusaders in game two as they would trail 1-0 until the 4th inning.
Pat Monteith would get North Greenville on the board with a two-RBI single. Runs would come in pairs as NGU put up two runs in each of the 6th, 7th, and 8th innings. Barton was able to make things interesting with three runs in the 8th to pull back within three, but
Dawson Taylor would close things out with a scoreless 9th to record the save.
Nate Roof recorded the win. One win was all NGU needed going into the day to clinch the regular season Conference Carolinas championship. With that, North Greenville will go into the Conference Carolinas Tournament as the #1 seed.
