North Greenville emerged victorious over the Valkyries of Converse University this afternoon at Tyger River Park in Spartanburg, South Carolina with final scores of 14-4 and 9-0. Three of the Valkyries' four runs for the day were scored in the 1st inning of game one, but the NGU pitching staff would allow just one run throughout the final eleven innings. The Crusaders showed off their speed on the base paths in game one as eight stolen bases were recorded including two by
Lexis Wilkinson and two by
Jenna Hewes.
Brianna McRae continued her hot streak in the opening game, going three for five with five RBIs and two extra-base hits, a triple and a double.
Hailey Wells, who entered the game with two outs in the 1st inning, went on to pitch the remainder of the game and earned the win. NGU would thoroughly dominate game two, scoring nine runs on ten hits and five walks as well as two errors committed by Converse.
Claire Gilmore was the star of game two with a home run and double. Pitching shut down the Valkyries, allowing just three hits and six walks to complete the shutout.
Bailey Pace, who pitched 4.0 shutout innings in relief, took the win.
