Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders were able to get the bats going this afternoon at
Jan McDonald Field, recording a total of 21 hits throughout the afternoon. However, the Tornado, who are currently tied for third in the Conference Carolinas in team batting average, proved to be too much to slow down with final scores of 16-6 and 11-8. After two scoreless innings to open up game one, King would take the lead with the first run of the game in the 3rd. After the Crusaders responded with a run of their own, the NGU pitching staff would run into trouble as ten batters would make a plate appearance for King in the 4th inning to score seven runs to take an 8-1 lead. The Tornado would record a solo shot in the 5th before
Madison Pride and
Aschlyn Hutto would collect RBI hits to drive in two runs in the bottom of the inning. King would pull away further in the top of the 6th by scoring seven additional runs.
Brianna McRae and
Josie Reed each put up a home run in the bottom of the inning, but the game would come to an early end due to the run rule.
Bailey Pace, who started the game, took the loss. Game two began on a rough note for North Greenville as King pulled away in the 1st wth six runs.
Lexis Wilkinson would get the Crusaders on the board in the bottom of the inning by scoring on a passed ball. Both teams would score runs in the 2nd with NGU putting up three including a two-run double by
Claire Gilmore. After the Tornado scored two runs in the 5th, the North Greenville would spend the rest of the game cutting into the deficit, scoring four unanswered runs including home runs by
Jenna Hewes and
Virginia Bishop. However, the Crusader lineup was shut down in the 7th inning as King was able to hang on for the win.
Morgan Hatchell was charged with the loss.
