NGU Puts Up Fight But Falls Twice to Carson-Newman

The North Greenville Crusaders were competitive in both games but ultimately fell to the 25th-ranked Eagles of Carson-Newman University with final score of 3-2 and 15-7 this afternoon in Jefferson City, Tennessee. NGU held a lead in both games, scoring a run in the top of the 1st. North Greenville led 2-0 until the 6th inning in game one, when the Eagles tied the game. In the bottom of the 7th, an RBI double to right field would score the winning run to get Carson-Newman the come-from-behind victory. Bailey Pace pitched the entire game but was the losing pitcher. After gaining the lead in the top of the 1st to begin game two, C-N would claim the lead in the 2nd by scoring four runs. NGU would cut the deficit to two with a run in the top of the 3rd, then in the top of the 5th the Crusaders would reclaim the lead with five runs scored including a two-run triple by Claire Gilmore. From there, Carson-Newman would finish the game with eleven unanswered runs with nine of them coming in the bottom of the 6th. Maddie Gore, who pitched four innings, was charged with the loss.
