Tigerville, SC - A ruckus crowd proved to be a key factor as the North Greenville Crusaders came up with a huge victory against the Trojans of the University of Mount Olive tonight at Hayes Gymnasium. The match proved to be a competitive one from the start as the Trojans would narrowly take set one with a score of 25-23. NGU responded with its best set of the night, posting twelve kills and just one attack error in set two to win it 25-22. Set three ultimately went to the Trojans, who maintained a manageable lead throughout the set. The two teams committed their share of attack errors in set four, with both teams recording a .194 attack percentage. However, NGU would go on to take the set 26-24 to force a 5th set that was guaranteed to be action-packed. Set five did not disappoint as the Crusaders trailed by as much as three but fought their way out of the deficit. Trailing 10-8, North Greenville would take over by scoring seven of the final nine points to win as the student section stormed the court to celebrate the victory.
"That was one of the wildest nights of volleyball I've ever been through at NGU. The crowd was so loud and into it, and that made a huge difference in the last 2 sets. We just showed we can compete with the best teams in our conference and to get out of there was a big thrill. It truly was a total team effort and I'm very proud of my team right now! But I salute all those people who came out to cheer for us! That was a big moment for me" - Head Coach
