Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders were unable to hand Belmont Abbey its first loss in conference play, coming up four points short in the Battle of the Crusaders with a final score of 57-53 this afternoon at Hayes Gymnasium. The two teams remained close throughout the contest, with the largest lead of the game being just six points. Although North Greenville was able to shoot 57.1 percent from the field in the opening quarter, turnovers limited the amount of overall shots. Belmont Abbey shot just 28.6 percent from the field in the quarter yet the two teams were tied 13-13 going into the second quarter. Both teams struggled offensively in the second quarter, combining for a total of just seven field goals. Belmont Abbey would take a three point lead into halftime. BAC would heat up in the third quarter, shooting 45.5 percent while NGU improved from the second quarter with a 33.3 percentage. However, Belmont Abbey would manage just one more point in the quarter than North Greenville to take a slim four point lead into the fourth. The two teams picked up the pace in the fourth, with both scoring twenty points. Belmont Abbey went 0-11 from three point range but was able to convert five field goals in the quarter, all in the paint to escape Tigerville with the win.
