Karhu Knocks Through Five Field Goals; Crusaders Score Late to Beat West Alabama

Livingston, AL – A late touchdown capped a game winning drive that lifted North Greenville to a 34 – 33 win over West Alabama. 
 
North Greenville scored 15 – points, all thanks to the leg of Colin Karhu who put through five of six field goal attempts. It was a career high for field goals in a game for the sophomore kicker. He hit from distances of 21, 22, 32, 19 and had a long of 42.  
 
The Tigers took their second lead of the game with 11 – seconds left in the third quarter on a passing touchdown from 27 – yards out. The score made it 21 – 15. West Alabama tacked on a second consecutive score to extend the lead to 27 – 15 after a failed two-point conversion. 
 
North Greenville scored the next two touchdowns to regain a slight edge, the first of which came when Dylan Ramirez hooked up with AJ Tolbert. It was Tolbert's first career touchdown and made it 27 – 22 with 10:26 left in the game. Ramirez would take it in himself for the second NGU touchdown to give NGU a 28 – 27 lead. 
 
North Greenville held on to the lead until the 1:51 mark of the fourth quarter. The Tigers returned a punt 92 – yards for a touchdown to take the lead back. It was the first punt return for a touchdown allowed by North Greenville. 
 
The Crusaders responded with their longest drive of the night hitting on 11 – plays and drive it 75 – yards for the win. The game winning score came on the feet of Corey Watkins who took it in from one yard out, leaving just seven seconds on the clock which ran out after two pass plays from West Alabama.

  • Dylan Ramirez finished with 271 – yards passing and a touchdown. He also tacked on a rushing touchdown. 
  • AJ Tolbert had a career day, catching four passes for 70 – yards and score. 
  • Corey Watkins had 51 – yards and a score on the ground. 
  • Defensively De'Iveon Donald and Dantevian Byrd led the Crusaders with eight tackles each. 
  • Jaiden Clayton, Termaine Epps, and Kendrick Clark each had a sack. 
  • RJ Wooten intercepted his first pass of the game and had four tackles on the night.

North Greenville hosts Valdosta State next Saturday for 2022 homecoming.
