NGU Finishes Regular Season With Loss to Belmont Abbey

The North Greenville Crusaders fell to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders with a final score of 3-1 to wrap up the regular season. NGU finished with a 12-4 overall record and a 7-4 conference record to hold the #3 seed in the Conference Carolinas Tournament. Jackson Gilbert led the way in kills with nineteen.

Recap
  • NGU would dominate the start of the opening set by jumping out to a 12-1 lead. Belmont Abbey would slowly but surely cut into the deficit. However, North Greenville would go on to take the set with a score of 25-19.
  • Set two proved to be much more competitive between the two teams. NGU would hold onto a slight lead for a large portion of the set, but Belmont Abbey would eventually claim the lead and never look back, taking the 2nd set 25-22.
  • An early Belmont Abbey run was answered by a run by NGU. The set would remain even until a 6-1 run by BAC would prove to be enough as they would take the 3rd set 25-22.
  • Set 4 would result in a close battle between the two teams. Belmont Abbey would eventually put together a 5-1 run to lead 23-19. North Greenville would put up a final fight with a 3-1 lead, but BAC would score the final point to win the final set 25-22.
Individual
  • Jackson Gilbert finished his regular season with 19 kills, 8 digs, 4 blocks, and 3 service aces.
  • Brandon Baker posted 6 kills, 5 blocks, 3 digs, and an assist.
  • Diego Rosich also hit 6 kills with 4 digs, a block, and an assist.
Upcoming
  • The Crusaders will return to action in the Conference Carolinas Tournament. They will face the Erskine Flying Fleet or the Emmanuel Lions on Tuesday, April 13th in Tigerville.
