Crusaders Swept by Mount Olive

NGU fell to the University of Mount Olive Trojans in a doubleheader in Mount Olive, North Carolina with final scores of 5-4 and 5-3. The Crusaders fell behind early in both games. They would fight to stay within striking distance but would fall on the short end of the board in both games. Brooklyn Stone led NGU in hits with five.

Recap
  • Mount Olive would get on the board first in the bottom of the 2nd by way of a two-run double. The Crusaders responded in the top of the 4th with an RBI sacrifice bunt and an RBI double by Brianna McRae to tie the game at 2-2. However, that tie would not last long as the Trojans would reclaim the lead in the bottom of the inning with a bases-clearing double to lead by three. Claire Gilmore would give North Greenville new life in the top of the 5th with a two-RBI double. NGU would put up one last fight in the top of the 7th by getting two runners on base, but would come up empty. 
  • UMO would strike first in the 2nd inning of game two with four runs. The Crusaders were held scoreless until the 5th inning when Taylor Koon hit a sacrifice fly to score Claire Gilmore. Mount Olive responded with an RBI single up the middle. Brooklyn Stone would hit a two-run home run in the 6th to put NGU back within two, but the Crusaders would be held in check for the remainder of the game.

  • Brooklyn Stone had a solid day, collecting 5 hits including a home run, a double and 3 runs scored. 
  • Josie Reed posted 4 hits for the day with an RBI and 2 walks.
