The North Greenville Crusaders split day two of a four-game series against the Trojans of the University of Mount Olive. NGU dominated game one, winning 10-3. However, after a clutch home run in the top of the 9th in game two, the Crusaders would ultimately fall to the Trojans in the second game to lose the series 3-1.
After two scoreless innings to begin the day, NGU would get on the scoreboard in the 3rd with a sacrifice fly by
Ethan Stringer and an RBI single up the middle by
John Michael Faile. Mount Olive would get a run across in the 3rd and 4th innings to tie the game at 2-2, but NGU would respond in the top of the 5th with an RBI double to right center by
Jordan Holladay. Four more runs would come across for North Greenville in the 6th by way of a sacrifice fly by
Gehrig Octavio and a three-run home run by
John Michael Faile. UMO would get one more run across in the 6th, but the Crusaders would score two insurance runs in the 7th with Doug Angeli scoring on a wild pitch and
Josh Senter bringing in a run with a single up the middle.
Zach Taglieri was the winning pitcher, pitching 6.0 strong innings.
The Crusaders took an early lead in game two with a solo shot by
John Michael Faile in the 3rd. However, Mount Olive would quickly respond with two runs in the bottom of the 3rd and an additional run in the 4th. With the Crusaders down to their last strike,
Pat Monteith would hit a single up the middle to keep NGU alive.
Josh Senter would then come through with a game-tying home run to right field. However, UMO would score the winning run in the bottom of the inning.
John Michael Faile hit 2 home runs and posted 5 RBIs for the day.
Josh Senter posted 4 hits including a home run.
North Greenville will face the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters on Friday, March 26th in Tigerville.
