Crusaders Outdueled by Lions

Box Score Tigerville, SC - North Greenville suffered a 72-59 loss to the Lions of Emmanuel College this afternoon at Hayes Gymnasium. The two teams were tied at halftime, but a rough 3rd quarter proved to be too much for NGU to recover from, and were outscored 40-27 in the 2nd half. Peace Okeke had a game to remember, posting a double-double that included 17 rebounds.

Haylee Luttrell got things going on a positive note with a three pointer to open up the game. After a 6-5 Emmanuel lead, Savannah Hughes would score a three pointer as well as a jumper to put the Crusaders back up by four. However, the Lions would respond with a 10-0 run. Peace Okeke capped off the opening quarter with a last-second jump shot to make the score 16-12 in favor of Emmanuel.
After three points by the Lions to open up the 2nd quarter, the Crusaders posted a 7-2 run to pull within two. After Emmanuel responded with a eight point run, North Greenville put together an eight point run of their own to tie things back up at 29-29. Both teams would connect for a three pointer late in the quarter with Peace Okeke hitting hers right before the buzzer to go into halftime with a score of 32-32.
Emmanuel would again open up the scoring in the 3rd quarter, posting a 7-2 run. A .222 field goal percentage by the Crusaders would lead to just eight points being scored in the quarter. In the final two minutes of the quarter, the Lions were able to increase their lead to double digits with five straight points to take a 50-40 lead.
The Crusaders would put up a fight in the 4th quarter, posting a 12-3 run to cut the deficit down to four points. Down by four with less than two minutes remaining, NGU was unable to connect with a basket to pull within one possession. The Lions would go on to score the final nine points to take the victory.

Individual

Peace Okeke put together a solid performance, posting a double-double with 13 points and 17 rebounds.
Haylee Luttrell scored 12 points with 3 rebounds and 2 assists.
Savannah Hughes also hit double digits, scoring 10 points and providing 2 assists.
