Crusaders erase 21-point deficit to down Bobcats

Tigerville – Karen Donehew finished with 25-points and North Greenville erased a 21-point second-half deficit to down Lees-McRae 68-67 on Wednesday night.

The Crusaders trailed 43-21 at intermission but used a big third quarter to fuel the comeback. NGU trimmed the LMC advantage to just 14-points after outscoring the bobcats 15-8.

NGU saved its best quarter of the night for its last, opening the final frame on an 12-5 run powered by a pair of three-pointers from Karen Donehew. Donehew’s triples cut the LMC deficit to five points. She had eight points total during the opening minutes of the fourth.

Lees-McRae held off the Crusaders until the final seconds of the game. North Greenville scored 11-points in the final 34-seconds of the game including three points from Donehew and another four from Savannah Hughes while holding LMC to just four points down the stretch.

The Bobcats had an opportunity to even the score with three-tenths of a second on the clock but missed the back-end of a set of free throws. Donehew secured the rebound to finish off the NGU comeback.

Three other players scored in double-figures to help North Greenville’s comeback bid including Savannah Hughes who tacked on 14-points and added five assists. Journey Muhammed scored 11 and added four steals while Damiya Montgomery scored 10-points off the bench. Karen Donenew led NGU in rebounds with 11 for a double-double.

The Crusaders hit the road again on Saturday to take on Belmont Abbey at 2 PM.
