Box Score Mount Olive, N.C. – Both teams struggled offensively on Saturday but North Greenville still came up short, Falling to Mount Olive 70-66 in the final regular season road contest of the season.
The Crusaders trailed for the entire 40-minutes and by as many as 12-points but continued to battle and cut the lead to just two points late in the first quarter. North Greenville shot just 39-percent in the effort but held the Trojans to just 40-percent shooting, keeping the game manageable. The Crusaders were just 25-percent from the field in the first half.
North Greenville bounced back in the second half in a big way, shooting 30-points better percentage wise. The Crusaders were 16 of 30 in the third and fourth quarters compared to just seven of 28 in the first half.
North Greenville trailed by six points with less than a minute left in the game before a Journey Muhammed three-ball made it 67-64 in favor of the Trojans. A Savannah Hughes layup in the finals seconds added two more points in NGU’s favor but the Trojans were able to knock down a set of free throws in the waning seconds to secure the victory.
Hughes would lead the team in scoring with 20-points while Karen Donehew tacked on 16. Peace Okeke was the only other player for the Crusaders in double-figures with 10-points to go along with 10-rebounds.
North Greenville wraps up the regular season on Tuesday with a home game against King University at 5:30.
