North Greenville bests Lees-McRae

Banner Elk, N.C. – Journey Muhammed had a big night for North Greenville with 24-points while Karen Donehew added 19 as NGU earned 71-62 win over Lees-McRae on Wednesday night.

A big second quarter moved the Crusaders to the driver’s seat on Wednesday’s game. A one-point lead after the first for Lees-McRae quickly disappeared as Journey Muhammed knocked down a three in the opening seconds, opening a 10-1 run which put North Greenville ahead 22-14.

North Greenville led by as many as 16-points on Wednesday night, riding a strong showing at the three-point line, knocking down 11 of its 24-shots from deep. The Crusaders added 18-points in the paint and another 13 off the bench to aide in the wining effort.

Donehew added 12-rebounds to go along with her 19-points for the only double-double of the game. Savannah Hughes added seven points while Peace Okeke scored six along with Ayano Shelton who scored six off of the bench. NGU shot 45.3-percent from the field.

The Crusaders will play their final regular-season road game on Saturday when they head to Mount Olive to play the Trojans.
