NGU senior day spoiled by Barton

Tigerville – North Greenville led for much of the first half but the Bulldogs of Barton spoiled senior day for the Crusaders with a big second half to take a 68-52 win.

The Crusaders led 14-5 after one quarter and for a little less than 10-minutes of the second period. The lead for NGU swelled to as many as 11-points, a lead which came in the second quarter when Journey Muhammed deuce made it 16-5.

Barton pulled even with the Crusaders at 27-27 with 1:14 left before halftime, the first time the score was even since it was 0-0. The Bulldogs closed out the first half on an 8-0 run, knocking down a pair of three pointers in the final 40-seconds, including one with just a second on the clock.

The momentum carried over into the second half as Barton’s lead swelled to 13-points. North Greenville was able to cut the deficit to just seven points down the third-period stretch but were outscored 35-25 in the second half.

Karen Donehew and Savannah Hughes led NGU with 12-points each and were the only players in double-figures. Demiya Montgomery finished with five points. Donehew led the team with nine-rebounds while Peace Okeke had seven.

The Crusaders will head to Banner Elk on Wednesday to take on Lees-McRae.
