Slow Start Dooms Crusaders Against Mount Olive

Tigerville, SC - A 17-2 score after the first quarter proved to be too much to come back from as the North Greenville Crusaders fell to the Mount Olive Trojans 65-49. North Greenville did outscore UMO 19-10 in the second quarter, but was outscored in the third and fourth quarters. Karen Donehew was the lone Crusaders to hit double digits with fifteen points.

1st Quarter

Things got off to a rough start for NGU with a 12-0 deficit early on. A jump shot by Karen Donehew finally put the Crusaders on the board with 3:47 remaining in the first quarter. The Trojans would score five more points to lead 15-2 at the end of the first quarter.

2nd Quarter

It was the Crusaders who were able to get off to a fast start to begin the quarter, putting together a 12-2 run. The remainder of the half would be played evenly with UMO going into halftime with a 27-21 lead. After shooting just 11.1% in the first quarter, NGU improved in the second quarter to post a 37.5 field goal percentage for the half. Donehew led in scoring with thirteen points for the half.

3rd Quarter

After both teams scored a basket early, the Trojans pulled away again with a 14-4 run. The Crusaders did score the final four points of the quarter, but would trail 43-31.

4th Quarter

UMO opened up the quarter with a quick 6-0 run. However, North Greenville did not go down without one final fight, putting up an 8-2 run. Scoring no longer became an issue for the final few minutes as the two teams would combine for 24 points within the final five minutes of the game. The Crusaders shot 40.7% in the second half. Journey Muhammed led in points with eight.

Individual

Karen Donehew posted 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Haylee Luttrell scored 9 points and recorded a rebound.

Journey Muhammed finished with 8 points, 3 rebounds, an assist, and a steal.

NGU will return to the court tomorrow to face the Furman Paladins in an exhibition game in Greenville, SC.
