NGU Suffers First Conference Loss to Barton in Double Overtime

NGU fought hard to remain undefeated in conference play, but the Crusaders ultimately fell to the Barton Bulldogs with a 2-1 score in double overtime. With the loss, NGU currently holds second place in the Conference Carolinas standings.

1st Half

North Greenville recorded the first shot of the half by Karly Denaburg just over one minute into the match. The half became a defensive one as only nine total shots would be recorded between the two teams with the Crusaders leading with five shots. Brianna Rowe led the half in saves with two.

2nd Half

The Crusaders once again were able to post the first shot of the half, this time by Ariana Perry just 16 seconds into the half. A goal would be scored in the 76th minute by Barton's Rebekah Beal. About five minutes later, North Greenville scored an equalizer when a corner kick by Karly Denaburg forced an own goal by the Bulldogs. BC would put up two shots in the final minute of regulation, but overtime would be required.

Overtime

With neither team scoring in the first overtime period, Barton's Brenna Keegan would strike quickly in the second overtime period with her third goal of the season to end the match.

Individual

Megan Biehl led the Crusaders with 5 shots and a shot on goal.

Karly Denaburg recorded 3 shots and a shot on goal.

Mary Courtney Puryear led in shots on goal with 2.

Upcoming

NGU returns to action Wednesday, September 26th in Tigerville with a conference match against the Mount Olive Trojans.
