Box Score Tigerville, SC - A ferocious comeback by the Crusaders was not quite enough as NGU fell to the Newberry Wolves 67-66. After falling behind 39-25 in the first half, North Greenville stormed back in the second half, including a 71.4 field goal percentage in the fourth quarter. Haylee Luttrell had a strong performance, scoring 26 points.
1st Quarter
Newberry began the game with a quick 7-2 lead. NGU scored five of the next seven points to trail by just two points. The wolves closed out the quarter with a 17-12 lead.
2nd Quarter
The Wolves pulled away early in the quarter, scoring the first ten points to lead 27-12. The remainder of the quarter was an even one, with North Greenville scoring slightly closing the deficit to fourteen points. Newberry took a 39-25 lead into halftime. North Greenville shot 28.6% from the field for the half. Journey Muhammed led in points for the half with twelve.
3rd Quarter
NGU began the quarter on a strong note, cutting the deficit to ten points before Newberry would build their lead back to 14. Both teams would rinse and repeat as the Crusaders once again cut the deficit to ten and Newberry built their lead back up to 14. The Wolves would ultimately take a 57-44 lead into the fourth quarter.
4th Quarter
Newberry opened up the quarter with a three-pointer to lead 60-44. From there, North Greenville would go on a 18-2 run to tie the game at 62-62. The Wolves scored the next three points to lead by three. NGU would fight back with four of the next five points to tie the game once again at 66-66. An NGU foul with one second remaining allowed Newberry to take free throws with 0.3 seconds left. One free throw would be converted to allow the Wolves to escape with the victory. The Crusaders improved vastly in the second half with a 53.3 shot percentage. Haylee Luttrell scored twenty points in the half.
Individual
Haylee Luttrell had her best performance of the season, hitting 10 of 12 shots (83.3%) for 26 points and 4 steals.
Journey Muhammed contributed in multiple categories, posting 12 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds, and an assist.
Karen Donehew scored 11 points and recorded 6 rebounds, 4 steals, and an assist.
