NGU Falls Short of Comeback Against Wolves

Tigerville, SC - North Greenville was unable to complete the comeback after a struggling third quarter, falling victim to the Newberry Wolves 64-58. With the loss, the Crusaders end the weekend with a 1-1 record. Karen Donahew, who was honored before the game for scoring her 1000th point, finished with 15 points for the game.

1st Quarter

Newberry got things started with a quick three-pointer. NGU missed their first seven shots before Journey Muhammed put the Crusaders on the board with a layup. The Wolves went ahead by four halfway into the quarter and would extend their lead to seven before a three-pointer by Karen Donahew closed the gap. A jumper by Bree Stoddard ended the quarter with a score of 20-16 in favor of Newberry.

2nd Quarter

The Crusaders closed the deficit to one point with a three-pointer by Donahew early on in the quarter. Donahew would hit another three to put North Greenville up by two. The momentum would continue to be on North Greenville's side as they would go on a ten-point run to lead 31-22. Both teams scored two points each for the remainder of the half to make the score 33-24. North Greenville scored 17 of the 21 total points scored in the quarter and shot 41.4% from the field. Karen Donahew led with nine points for the half.

3rd Quarter

NBY began the quarter with the momentum with nine of the first ten points. Eventually, they would tie the game at 34-34 and again at 37-37. Newberry would then pull away with an 11-point run to lead 48-38 at the end of the quarter. The Wolves scored 24 of the 29 total points in the quarter.

4th Quarter

North Greenville was finally able to get some momentum going with the first four points of the quarter. After a 5-2 run by the Wolves, NGU came storming back with a 12-1 run to lead 56-54. However, Newberry ended the game with a 10-4 run to take the win 64-58. Although North Greenville shot well in the fourth quarter, they shot just 23.7% in the second half. Kira Bell led in points in the second half with eight.

Individual

Karen Donahew led in points with 15 as well as rebounds with 8.

Kira Bell recorded 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 steals.

Journey Muhammed finished her game with 8 points and 3 rebounds.

Upcoming

The Crusaders will play on the road for the first time in the regular season against the Lander Bearcats in Greenwood, SC on Wednesday, November 14th.
