Box Score
Tigerville, S.C.—The North Greenville women’s basketball
team extended its winning streak to 4 games on Monday night securing a
double-digit, 15 point win over the Flying Fleet 82-76 in Hayes Gymnasium.
The Crusaders rode the scoring of Alisha Hope who tied her
career high with 18 points. Christina Carlis picked up her second double-double of the season with
14 points and 13 rebounds, and Courtney Friddle tallied a double-double with 14
points and 11 rebounds. Senior guard Karly Stache inched closer to the NGU
scoring record with 15. Stache now needs just four points to break the record
of 1441, set in 2005.
The Crusaders led by as many as 8 points in the first
period, but with just two minutes left in the game, the Flying Fleet gained
their first lead since the opening seconds of the game. The lead lasted just a few seconds
however as the Crusaders stormed back to gain a 1-point lead before
intermission.
In the second half, the Crusaders trailed Erskin for a total
of 16 seconds to open the half. After a three-minute scoring drought by both
squads, the Crusaders went on an 8-1 run which gobbled up five minutes, giving
the Crusaders their biggest lead of the game of 15.
The Fleet continued to play the Crusaders tough, and pulled
to within 9, but the Crusaders proved to be too much for Erskine to handle,
especially in the paint where the Crusaders outscored the Fleet 46-22.
North Greenville also forced 19 turnovers, converting them
into 17 points. The Crusaders also cleaned up their own misses converting
misses into 18 second chance points.
The Crusaders are now 12-2 in league play and 17-5 overall.
They will look to extend their winning streak on Wednesday night as they wrap
up a season series with Converse College at home. The Crusaders and Valkyries
will tipoff at 7pm in Hayes Gymnasium.
