Spartanburg, S.C.—Six players scored in double figures,
including Krisceda Cotton who led all scorers with 15, leading the North
Greenville women’s basketball team past Converse College 86-66, to improve to
10-3 on the season.
Tuesday night marked the third straight game in which North
Greenville had atleast four players score in double figures. Point Guard
Christina Carlis had a solid night banking in 14 points while also registering
7 assists. Karly Stache and Courtney Friddle both scored 12 points, while
Timisty Nelson and Aliyah Stokes scored 11 for the Crusaders.
After trailing briefly in the opening minutes, the Crusaders
quickly gained the advantage and never trailed in the first half, taking a 9
point advantage to the locker room at intermission. The Crusaders led by as
many as 14 in the first period. Converse entered the second half firing on all
cylinders and cut NGU’s lead to 1 point, four minutes into the second half.
Two free throws and two layups later however, the Crusaders
regained momentum and control, and with 11 minutes left, regained a
double-digit lead. The Valkyries battled, and cut NGU’s lead to single digits
several times, but the Crusaders remained in control and extended their lead to
18, the largest of the night.
The Crusaders are now 5-0 in league play after Tuesday’s win
over Converse, and are currently riding a four game winning streak. They will
put their winning streak and undefeated conference record on the line Thursday
night, in Charlotte against Queens University. The Crusaders and Royals will
tipoff at 2pm.
