Younts Stadium

Built in 2005, Younts Stadium is the home of North Greenville football. The stadium is named after Melvin and Dollie Younts, who were major donors for the athletic complex. The stadium's capacity of 4,500 is the largest of all athletic facilities at NGU. Younts Stadium has hosted two NCAA Playoff games and three NCCAA Victory Bowl games. In 2016, an attendance record of 5,435 was set when an away game against The Citadel was moved to Tigerville for safety reasons in response to Hurricane Matthew.

History

In the late '90s and early 2000s, North Greenville's home football games were played at Eastside High School in Taylors, SC. In 2004, construction began on North Greenville's athletic complex, which until 2014 consisted of Younts Stadium, Pepsi Stadium, Hendricks Athletic Center, and two practice fields. Contruction of the complex was completed in 2005, and on August 27, 2005 NGU played its first ever on-campus football game against the University of Virginia at Wise.

Younts Stadium has seen its share of updates since its original construction. The stadium originally did not have lights, but after just one season the lighting system was added in 2006 mostly due to the hot afternoons at the beginning of the season. In 2014, the natural grass field was replaced with a Sports Turf playing surface, which was installed by Sportscapes Construction. The original scoreboard was replaced with a Nevco scoreboard in 2015, which remained until the 2025 season.

In 2018, premium tailgating spots were added to the banks surrounding the west endzone. This required an additional scoreboard, which was installed on the Hendricks Athletics Center in time for the start of the 2019 season.

A new artificial turf playing surface was installed over the summer of 2023.

The latest update to Younts Stadium came just before the start of the 2025 season, when a Nevco video board was installed, replacing the Nevco scoreboard installed in 2015.
