The North Greenville Trailblazers completed a doubleheader sweep of Ferrum this afternoon at Panther Field with final scores of 11-1 and 7-4.
North Greenville broke things open early in game one with a massive six-run 3rd inning, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Thomas Powell, an RBI double by Josh Foulks, and a three-run home run by Lane McGaha. The Trailblazers continued to build on the lead with two more runs in the 4th thanks to a two-run homer by Powell. NGU added insurance runs in the 6th and 7th innings and later capped the scoring with a solo home run by Skyler Hegler in the 7th to secure the run-rule victory.
Game two proved to be more competitive early on as NGU struck first in the opening inning with an RBI single by Lane McGaha. Ferrum responded with single runs in both the 2nd and 3rd innings to take a 2-1 lead. The Trailblazers answered in the 5th with an RBI double by Thomas Powell to tie the game before taking control in the 6th on a two-run home run by Cooper Noble. NGU added two more runs in the 7th and another insurance run in the 9th to secure the sweep.
Thomas Powell led the way offensively across both games, going 3-for-7 with a home run and 5 RBIs. Lane McGaha also had a strong day at the plate, finishing 5-for-8 with a home run and 5 RBIs. Skyler Hegler contributed 2 hits including a home run and 2 RBIs, while C.J. Dean added 4 hits and 3 runs scored.
On the mound, Bennett Roemer earned the game one win with 6.0 solid innings, allowing just 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 9. Oliver Adams picked up the win in game two, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing 2 runs on 4 hits with 2 strikeouts to help secure the doubleheader sweep.
NGU will take on the Bearcats of Lander University on Tuesday, March 31st at Ray & Bea Dillard Field.
