The North Greenville Trailblazers won both games of a rain-shortened doubleheader this afternoon in Central, South Carolina to complete a sweep of the Southern Wesleyan Warriors with final scores of 7-6 and 6-1. NGU trailed early on in game one as SWU would get on the board first with three runs in the 2nd inning. NGU responded with three runs of their own in the top of the 3rd including a two-RBI single by
Jake Sears. However, the Warriors would score another three runs in the bottom of the inning to reclaim the lead. After two scoreless innings, NGU would even things up with three runs in the 6th including a two-run home run by
Josh Foulks. In the top of the 7th, North Greenville would claim the lead for the first time in the game as a wild pitch allowed
Darrien Whitaker to score.
Connor Brinson, who entered the game in the 6th, recorded the save with a scoreless 7th inning.
Oliver Adams took the mound for game two. NGU would get on the board quickly when
Lane McGaha brought in a run with a single in the 1st. After SWU responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning,
Josh Foulks would put NGU back up front with a three-run home run in the 2nd. Pitching would take over until the 5th inning, where North Greenville would add to the lead with an RBI double by
Landon Peavy and an RBI single by
Connor McKee. Things went scoreless in the 6th inning. The Trailblazers added two runs in the 7th inning, but due to the game being called in the inning due to rain, the runs would not count.
Oliver Adams took the win.
Josh Foulks recorded 4 hits including 2 home runs in addition to 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
Landon Peavy posted 3 hits including a double as well as a run scored and an RBI.
Oliver Adams pitched a solid 5.0 innings on the mound, allowing just 1 run on 3 hits and no walks while striking out 4 batters.
North Greenville will face the Wolves of Newberry College on Tuesday, March 24th in Newberry, South Carolina.
