Tigerville, SC - NGU completed a sweep of the Erskine Flying Fleet with 7-3 and 12-1 victories at Ray & Bea Dillard Field. The two teams moved the doubleheader to Tigerville due to unplayable field conditions due to rain in Due West, South Carolina. North Greenville was the first to get on the board in game one of the day when
Lane McGaha hit a solo home run to left field in the 2nd inning. After two scoreless innings, NGU would extend the lead with a three-run 5th inning that included an RBI double by
Mason Swinney and RBI singles by
Thomas Powell and
CJ Dean. They would repeat that run count in the 6th inning thanks to solo home runs by
Kai Tullos and
Landon Peavy as well as an RBI single by
Thomas Powell. The Flying Fleet would end the game with some momentum, scoring three runs in the 7th, but North Greenville would comfortable hang on for the win.
Bennett Roemer pitched 6.0 scoreless innings and received the win. The Trailblazers ran away with game two early on, scoring one run in the 1st, two runs in the 2nd, and 2 runs in the 3rd all from home runs from
Josh Foulks,
Samford Halcomb, and
CJ Dean. NGU extended the lead further in the 4th with three runs including RBI singles by Powell, Foulks, and Dean. Erskine would get on the board with a run in the 6th, but the Trailblazers would pull away even further in the top of the 8th when
Lane McGaha hit a grand slam to left field.
Matty Brown pitched 5.0 scoreless innings and was the winning pitcher.
Thomas Powell finished the day with 4 hits including a double in addition to 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
Lane McGaha posted 2 home runs including a grand slam in addition to 5 RBIs, 2 runs, and a walk.
Bennett Roemer pitched 6.0 strong innings, allowing no runs, 3 hits, and 1 walk while striking out 10.
North Greenville will face the Cobras of Coker University Tuesday, February 24th at Ray & Bea Dillard Field.
