Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Trailblazers fell to the Hawks of Shorter University with a final score of 61-53 this afternoon at Hayes Gymnasium. NGU began things on a strong note, leading by as much as ten in the 1st quarter and taking an 18-11 lead into the 2nd. Shorter would lead the 2nd quarter 19-15, but the Trailblazers would hang on to a 33-30 at halftime. The third quarter proved to be a struggle for North Greenville as they were outscored 22-8 in the quarter. NGU did respond by leading the 4th quarter 12-9, but it would be enough as Shorter would end the afternoon with a 61-53 victory. Turnovers proved costly for NGU as 22 of them led to 23 points off turnovers for Shorter. Overall, NGU shot .392 from the field.
Janyia Williams posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds in addition to a steal and an assist. Quinn Johnson finished with 11 points, an assist, and a rebound.
Jayla Cook recorded 6 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.
NGU will return to action on Monday, January 19th against the Bulldogs of Barton College in Wilson, North Carolina.
